Vesido Chiapaneco / Traditional Chiapas dress

El vestido de chiapaneca es artesanía viva. Originario del estado de Chiapas, al sur de México, este vestido es uno de los más coloridos y tradicionales del país. Sobre tul negro, manos expertas bordan a mano flores grandes con hilo brillante; puntadas como petatillo dan relieve y luz. La falda circular se abre al moverse y la blusa, de hombros descubiertos, lleva un holán también bordado. Terminar un conjunto toma semanas y a veces meses: cada pétalo exige dibujo, bastidor y cientos de puntadas precisas. No es un simple atuendo; es un oficio concentrado en color y movimiento. Estas preciosas prendas son vestidos de gala, usados en la Fiesta Grande de Chiapa de Corzo y en presentaciones con marimba, desfiles y actos culturales.

The Chiapaneca dress is living craftsmanship. Originating in the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico, it is one of the country's most colourful and traditional garments. On black tulle, skilled hands hand-embroider large flowers with lustrous thread; stitches such as petatillo add depth and light. The circular skirt opens as it moves, and the off-the-shoulder blouse carries an embroidered ruffle. Finishing a full ensemble takes weeks and sometimes months: each petal requires a drawing, a hoop, and hundreds of precise stitches.
